Boston’s Beloved Gardner Museum Debuts a Monumental Restoration

Though the late, great Boston collector Isabella Stewart Gardner left express instructions that her house-cum-namesake-museum should be maintained intact, with no changes, after her death in 1924, even she would agree that it should always look its best. Thus, the recent and splendid restoration of the Raphael Room, named for its two masterwork paintings by the 16th-century Italian artist and one of the Fenway-area palazzo’s most dramatic spaces
