With the quick pace of today’s digital world, your nonprofit organization’s social media channels constantly need feeding to keep your followers engaged. Often, keeping up with the demand for new content is a challenge—it can be time consuming and expensive. However, with a little creativity, you can produce some for little to no cost. Here are some ways to get great content for your organization without breaking the bank.

Archives

Everyone loves a good #TBT. If you’re searching for content, your organization’s archives are a great place to start. Grab a photo from a year ago or go back further and tie it to something happening right now at your organization. A perfect example is using a photo from the first fundraising 5K or marathon for your organization in a post reminding people to register for this year’s event.

Quotes

Quotes make for great shareable content because while they relate specifically to your   organization, they can apply to others in your industry and beyond. A smart, pithy quote from your nonprofit’s thought leaders is the perfect way to inspire your followers, making them more likely to share it with others. You can also reach new audiences by connecting these posts with a popular hashtag, such as #MotivationMonday or #WednesdayWisdom.

News

Your social media channels are the perfect place to amplify any earned media your nonprofit organization has received. But even if your organization was not mentioned in a news story pertaining to your industry, social media offers a great way to insert yourself into the conversation. Consider sharing a news story with a reaction or quote from your CEO that establishes your organization’s point of view on the topic and further solidifies them as a thought leader.

Facts

Facts are another great source for content, but you don’t need to make a complex infographic to highlight the impressive numbers about your organization. Statistics show the impact of your work. You can share fun and informative numbers such as how many communities or individuals were served last year or how many volunteers participated in your work. Alternatively, data about your industry, such as statistics on the effects of climate change or the percent of people who do or do not recycle, can easily be tied to a call to action to support your nonprofit’s work. Use a design program like Canva to quickly create simple graphics to visualize the data.

Go Live

Facebook and Instagram have been putting a lot of focus on their live video capabilities. With a few tools, you can easily live stream an event or special announcement from your organization. Grab your cellphone, purchase a tripod, secure a strong Wi-Fi connection and you’re ready to broadcast! If you don’t have the bandwidth to do live video, Instagram Stories are a great alternative to give followers an inside look into your organization.

The possibilities for content are endless if you get creative! As you are planning your posts, remember to vary the types of content you post to avoid audience fatigue and pay attention to what types of content perform best on each platform.
