Each year on March 22, people across the globe celebrate World Water Day. This year the theme is Nature for Water, which is looking at the different ways the environment offers solutions for water issues.

Teak is a staunch supporter of responsible businesses helping to solve the world’s most pressing environmental and social problems. To celebrate World Water Day, we’ve pulled together companies that are working to tackle water scarcity around the world.

 Stella Artois

Stella Artois, a renowned beer brand, has a unique partnership with Water.org to increase access to water. By purchasing a limited edition Stella Artois chalice, consumers will unlock five years of clean water for an individual in the developing world. The partnership, which was launched in 2015, has provided access to clean water to more than one million individuals. By 2020, they hope to reach 3.5 million people.

 Levi Strauss & Co.

Many consumers underestimate the amount of water it takes to create clothing, from jeans to t-shirts. Levi Strauss & Co., a leading brand of jeans, revolutionized its manufacturing process to reduce the amount of water it required it its Water<Less initiative. Since 2011, when the program launched, the company has saved more than one billion gallons of water.

Connect the Drops

More than 25 major brands have come together to tackle the water crisis in California by joining the Connect the Drops campaign, organized by environmental nonprofit Ceres. Companies life Clif Bar, Annie’s, and Seventh Generation has signed on to the coalition and are working to reduce their own water footprint and protect water resources in the Golden State.

There are also many ways to mark World Water Day on a personal level. Reducing your own water use is an easy way to protect the environment. Simple everyday choices like recycling instead of throwing out packaging, switching to a low-flow showerhead, and only running loads of laundry and dishes when the machines are full can help conserve this precious resource, one drop at a time.
